In the novel by Mary Shelley Frankenstein, Shes uses the word pretense to describe a statement in the book. The definition according to it's use in the book is: false reason; unsupported claim. I found this word in an article that my uncle told me to read. They used the word to describe sum type of security in a negative way. The two terms both use the words in the same manner.
